Bridal Show at the Jacques Reception Center

So Rachi and I, being the crazy people we are, went to a bridal show yesterday :D Hey, it was free and lots of fun. Everyone kept asking me what my wedding date was and I wasn’t sure what to say. They were all expecting 2008. Sorry, but I like to plan as early as possible. I told them I was getting married in Fall of ‘09, since that’s the earliest I could possibly get married.

There were around 20 vendors there I think. One bridal shop, a few tux places, a limo place, two entertainment places, an officiant, registries, photographers, a skin place, and various other wedding related vendors. We had to go around to all the vendors to get our sheet signed to be entered in for door prizes. I won Vera Wang glasses from Macy’s. I tried finding a picture, but they don’t have them on their site. They’re very nice though.

Here are some of the highlights of the show:

The Jacques Reception Center in Middletown, NJ: The building is new and very nice. They have seating for up to 300 people and delicious food. They had a good amount of food there, but we only ate a little bit. The hors d’oeuvres were amazing and the fettucine alfredo was really good. But the cake, the cake was omg! We both got chocolate and that was really some of the best chocolate cake I have ever had. There was only one thing I didn’t like about the reception center and that was the parking lot. The whole lot was raised and there was only one tiny little flat part for the entrance. Everyone was turning around because it’s very easy to miss. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind having a wedding there.

True Love Bridal in Matawan, NJ: I will definitely be shopping for a dress here. They did the fashion show and they have Maggie Soterro gowns :D They’re very close to where I live too. Yay for convenience! They were also giving away garters which was cool.

Reverend Rita: Was the officiant at the show. She seemed really cool. From her website:

When I create a wedding ceremony or civil union ceremony, I meet with the couple and discuss the traditions and rituals that are important to them. I suggest things that might enhance their ceremony and make it special. I find out as much as possible about the relationship that the two people have so that I can share it with the guests at the ceremony. I believe that it is important for guests to get a sense of who is getting married and what their relationship is like. When I officiate at a ceremony, I bring love, caring and a sense of the joy to the occasion. Since I know that people like to be included, I encourage the couples to include family and friends in the ceremony.

The Entertainment Companies: I didn’t really like either of them. Both were just way too much. The first one handed out glow necklaces and then announced that everyone wearing one had to get up and dance. Great. So we were forced to do the electric slide as well as several other annoying dances. There will be none of this at my wedding. The other company had video screens and they can do photo montages and things. I could picture the guests rolling their eyes.

The Other Vendors: I’m sure they’re all great, but no one else really made a strong impression on me. Bank of America was rather rude and the people at Macy’s were very nice, but otherwise… I signed up for pretty much everything, so I’ll be getting a ton of junk mail in the near future. Though I will eventually get married, so I guess it’s good to be ready.
