Grandpa Sam

My parents called Saturday night to let me know my grandpa passed away. He’d been very sick since November.

Grandpa was a little strange, I guess most grandpas are. When I was little he used to joke about taking my hair to use on his head. I once showed him my website, but he didn’t understand enough about computers or the internet to know what he was looking at. Every time he called he asked me if they made me the boss yet :D He would sing a song, “Old man Sam, not like a used to be…”

He called me a few months ago and started telling about how he used to play ball when he was little and indoor plumbing. I guess he told me that stuff for the same reason I keep backups of my blogs and stuff, so that there’s some record that this stuff happened and someone will remember it.

I’m glad he’s with my Grandma now and my mom and my aunt don’t have to drive themselves crazy worrying about him anymore. We’ll miss him though :(

  2. I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my gramp 2 years ago (it’ll be 2 years next week), and he always had this thing of saying: “Are you alright?” and you’d say yes and he’d reply: “We’ll soon sort that out!” LOL. He nicknamed me David Bailey whenever I had my camera in tow, but I got some fantastic shots of him, and I treasure those :)

    I had a video of my nan and interviewed her so her story will live on, I love my nan so so much, I just had to have that piece of her & I see her every Saturday, though it’s not the same without my gramp there. I guess you didn’t live close enough to see him so much?

    1. he lived pretty close, but he thought he was boring so whenever we went to visit, he would kick us out after a couple of hours. That and he was hard of hearing, so it was difficult to communicate

  4. I’m sorry about your grandpa. :( It’s really nice that he called you and shared the memories he still had when he was younger. I know he’ll be sorely missed. I regret not being close to my grandparents, but it couldn’t be helped because they lived overseas.
