I decided to exercise before work today instead of after. Why have I never done this before??? Oh yes, it requires getting up a little earlier and scarfing down food so my tummy isn’t empty, going to work with wet hair, but golly do I feel good!
I couldn’t sleep last night too. Sometimes I have nights when I just don’t get tired, ever, like I had ten cups of coffee, when in reality I had none. Last I looked at the clock it was 1:41am. I woke up around 6 and didn’t really completely fall back asleep again. I feel so wired though! Maybe it’s leftover from my strange sleeplessness last night, but I feel like I have so much energy, I can’t sit still.
So, I’ll try this for a while and see how it goes. There are negatives, like I mentioned above, but I’m sure I’ll figure them out … I also ate 200 calories more than usual so far this morning and I’m almost as hungry as I usually am this time of day. That might be a problem. I ate my 4:00 snack as my breakfast and my breakfast as my second breakfast. I have lunch, but then I have nothing until I eat again around 8:00. Maybe I’ll munch on some carrots when I get home.
The yogurt isn’t really an efficient breakfast. I ate it so fast I felt sick after. Can anyone recommend a quick, good, pre-workout meal? Pre as in two minutes before the workout. I was thinking of doing a smoothie instead of a yogurt cup, but that’s more prep work and I don’t really know how many calories I need first thing in the morning. Maybe I should try not eating anything. There’s a lot of debate about if it’s better to eat before a morning workout. Some say your body enters starvation mode if you don’t eat, but other people say that’s crap and you actually burn more calories if you don’t eat. Who’s right???

I love yoghurt but having it in the mornings aches my stomach a little. I used to have miso soup, but my boyfriend went nuts and said it had way too much sodium. :( I’ve resorted to Vegemite on toast, that works okay for me. I honestly hate cereal, especially the bran stuff or whatever “healthy” shit they call it. I actually love cornflakes though.
I would probably suggest oats or some kind of cereal, I guess. I used to exercise before breakfast but I stopped… someone told me that was bad too because it was like I was exercising for no reason. I didn’t get it. :S But you burn more calories sleeping than watching television. I think any exercise is good and if you are hungry, eat! It sucks to ignore your stomach when it’s growling.
I’m sleeping late again; I knew I’d do this as soon as university started. Bad, bad habit. :/
Well, since I haven’t looked into eating/not eating before exercising, can’t really tell you what I think… I know that I wouldn’t be able to exercise before I eat, since I won’t have any energy to burn… But I don’t know. I’m not much of a morning person and would rather exercise after work. =/ You’re right about having more energy though, but sometimes, even after working out, I feel worse than before I worked out. =/
I made a smoothie for breakfast tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll digest that a little more easily.
I normally have something light like toast or a banana and then eat something bigger afterward I work out.
I prefer to eat yogurt after having something a little bit more carb-y – I think whole grain toast or even a small portion of oatmeal would be good if you want ti eat before you exercise – like the banana idea too. Then have the yogurt afterwards, maybe with a little granola mixed in.
