I know this is kinda old news, but I was thinking about it yesterday. The Catholic Church has this system set up so that they change with the times. So what did they decide to say was cool? Being gay, using condoms, something else that could save lives and make people happy? No. They said aliens were cool.
Still, I guess this is a big step for an institution that historically believed the universe literally revolved around us. Glad to know they’re now accepting stuff the majority of the population has accepted for the past, oh 100 years or so. Way to keep up with the times guys.
Though I’m sure Mulder’s very happy. Anyone else excited about the new XFiles movie? I’m more looking forward to Sex and the City and Get Smart :D Get Smart was my favoritest show when I was a kid. And Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart, could that be any more perfect??? My other favorite childhood show also has another movie coming out this summer: BATMAN!
Then of course there’s WALL-E, our favorite Johny 5 look-alike. Totally off the charts for cuteness. And of course, the big movie this weekend which Bryan and I will probably see today: Indiana Jones. It’s gonna be a good summer.

Yeah! I actually want to watch Get Smart too! Although I’ve never seen the show before… Ahahah… Yep, and I want to watch Wall-e too! Haha, we’ll see, I may end up asking someone to go watch those movies with me, but we’ll see. Haha.
Hehe, I hope that you’ll have fun watching Indiana Jones! It’s not my type of movie, so… I may not watch it, but I’ve heard soo many good reviews for it, though.
I watched Indiana Jones on Friday, but personally I didn’t like it at all. The ending was lame with the alien thing.
I can’t wait to see indiana jones and get smart but I’m gonna wait until they both been out for a weeks before I see them … why waste time in the long lines and in over crowded room…
I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to accept that there might be a possibility of aliens, sasquatch, etc. My dad doesn’t believe in anything that hasn’t been “confirmed” living, etc. I find it ridiculous.
I can’t wait to see the new Batman film. The trailer is a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
I didn’t know there was going to be a new X Files movie. I haven’t watched much of the X Files, just when I was little. Scared the living crap outta me then.
That totally is so weird… that they cannot accept any of the other things, but ALIENS?? of all things… ALIENS???? unfortunately, I think that the catholics do wrong when they “add” to the “commandments” like the homosexual matters, polluting the planet, etc… it’s just getting ridiculous now… we must learn how to reap what we sow, for sure… but man… they leave me speechless sometimes.
Ah, I am not looking forward to any of those movies, except for batman… I’m still sulking over Heath Ledger. But the one movie I’m really looking forward to is The Mummy 3. That looks really awesome!!
I’m Catholic (not a good one, but proud to be one), and I do believe that a lot of their ways are too conservative for my liking, but I don’t feel compelled to believe in its stances if I don’t feel it’s in par with what my conscience tells me. But it didn’t take the Church for me to believe that there is the possibility of something out there having life. For me, it was just that I cannot imagine how of all the things in this universe, we are the only ones who are alive. Maybe our perception of life out there, such as the various drawings of what aliens could possibly look like, may not be correct. I guess it’s a matter of being open to the idea that God — or whatever you would like to believe — would not merely compartmentalise life into just one galaxy. It sounds lonely.
OMG! “Get Smart” is coming out?! I loved that show! I had no idea it was being re-made!
The Church has been around a LONG time … 2000 years or so. The thing that I appreciate about the Church is that it provides a reliable focal point, sort of like a compass. You can wander in a lot of different directions, but the Church helped me sort out what’s real, what’s lasting, what’s permanent … and what’s simply one more opinion.
Take evolution, for example. Growing up, I thought it was a SIN to believe in evolution because it removed God from the equation. As a Catholic, I understand that the boundaries are more complex, with more room for various streams of thought.
Homosexuality is another good example … but only if you understand the framework for how God created the human body to work, and how it reflects God’s image. John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” really opened my eyes to the beauty of human intimacy as an expression of the love God has for us. Without that understanding, the rest of it (contraception, extra-marital sex, etc.) just seems like so many restrictions. On the other hand, as someone once told me, it is always a mistake to mock what one does not understand.
There are some things that are intrinsically poisonous to the soul, just as a bottle of poison will harm the body no matter how pretty the package. (Sex and the City is a good case in point.) For those who are interested, I wrote about it here: http://mommymonsters.blogspot.com/2008/05/sex-and-city-microcosm-of-real-life.html
Have a great day!
