I was reading this out of the blue article on Yahoo today: Living on Intuitive Time.

Intuition isn’t about psychic feelings or anything, it’s just plain and simple, listening to yourself. Our brains work pretty well, they’re good at sorting through information and solving problems when we’re not even aware. Sometimes when we rationally think through something, we leave out important considerations. Our happiness should be a primary consideration when making decisions, but often it doesn’t even factor in at all.

Last year, when i was job hunting, I was offered a job elsewhere for more money, before I went on the interview for this one. Initially I was excited about it. It was only 20 minutes from my parents’ house, they were offering about $10,000 more than the other jobs I had interviewed for and they gave us great food. It seemed perfect. Days passed and my excitement faded. We drove past the building during a driving lesson and I started crying. I was not supposed to be working there.

There were a few things I overlooked in my initial excitement that I only thought about later. The COO who told me that people should live at home after college, especially females. How they referred to men as guys, but women as females, as if we were animals or something. How arrogant some of the people seemed and how unhappy some of the new hires looked. How I would only get to see Bryan on weekends.

Following my intuition has served me pretty well so far. I have a great job, great boyfriend, great apartment. I’m actually pretty bad at making decisions consciously. I’m cheap, so they’re usually based on money. I guess that’s why I’ve learned to trust my subconscious to make decisions for me.

Money doesn’t directly lead to happiness. Friends, family, hobbies, food (for me anyway,) lead to happiness. If money can help you get those things, then it’s good. If not, it’s useless. Money leads to security, security can lead to something like buying a house, which can allow you to grow your family, but financial security alone won’t make you happy. Still, money has to be a consideration. Money won’t make you happy, but I can guarantee being in debt will make you unhappy.

In general, your brain’s good at balancing these things and knows what will lead to the greatest amount of happiness for you. Think about it, sleep on it, listen to yourself. Don’t jump on something because it sounds good. Do it because it feels right.

  1. Wow, I didn’t know that whole thing about that one job that you were offered last year. Hmm, or maybe I did, but I don’t remember.

Yeah, trusting your intuition is what I do also, although sometimes it doesn’t lead to something good like you with your boyfriend, job, etc. LOL.

  2. Hey Lissy, I hope you’re feeling better after that experience. I hated it when people think that female is the lesser gender, so much so that on average, female workers of the same post as their male counterpart get lower wages. And it’s very wrong for that COO to call ladies and females – it’s insulting and offensive! I hope that bad karma will come around and kick him in the butt.

I always trust my subconsciousness, and to bridge my subconsciousness with my conscious thoughts, I keep a dream diary. Basically what you’ll need is to have a pen and paper (preferably a diary if you want to keep things organised) handy beside your bed, and when you wake up from a dream, immediately jot down everything you can remember from your dream. Although there were a few instances when my subconsciousness made the wrong decision and screwed things up, most of the time it was right :)

And don’t call yourself cheap – who isn’t concerned about money? As the economy collides with inflation, rising oil prices and etc, having enough money in your pocket is the first thing to keep you safe.

  3. Now having spent several hours studying Freud and Jung I could go on about the subconscious or what Jung would consider the collective unconscious which could totally relate to what you are saying about intuition… but I am lazy and sick of theorists at the moment lol.

I like money. Being in debt makes me happy before I have to pay it xD And when I don’t remember about that, it is even better. It is almost like having FREE money, if only momentarily :D
