I am so frelling lucky my parents paid for my college. Some graduates are fleeing the country to escape debt. :O ‘Course I think if you don’t have that kind of money, there are more affordable options for school, but I guess it’s really important for some people to go to their dream school, get their dream degree, search for their dream job and be broke for the next 20 years. You really have to if you want to be a doctor or a lawyer.

I’m really glad I didn’t go to graduate school. Two more years of torture and I don’t think I would have gotten anything out of it besides a shiny new degree. Maybe if I went to some place like Columbia, but I didn’t get into Columbia. That’s probably a good thing for my sanity. But let’s say I went to the second-rate school I did get accepted to. I would have graduated next year. I wouldn’t have even been able to get a job where I’m working at now.

I could have gone to school while working. Navneet tried that. It didn’t go so well for him. Yeah, we’re not working 12 hour days here, but still, it’s hard! I barely stayed sane doing undergrad without a job.

Sure the Masters maybe would help me out ten years from now, but I’d rather do what makes me happy. More money won’t make me happy, marrying Bryan and having a family, that will.

  1. Oh woah, I’ve never heard of that… Hehe, yeah, I’m poor, so I got financial aid… Although my sister has to pay for like 1/4 of her tuition and all that. (She’s going to another school, though, so it makes sense.)

LOL about graduate school! I know EXACTLY what you mean about it! Sad thing is that I’m STILL being pressured to go… =( Yep, I don’t think I’d be able to handle work with school either. My coworker’s barely handling undergrad with a job… A part-time that’s like 11 hours each week… LOL.

But yep, I know EXACTLY what you mean about doing stuff that’d make you happy! ME TOO!!!

  2. i hope i never have to think of leaving the country because of my inordinate amount of debt…
so the title of this entry begs the question – will you be changing your name?

  3. I’ve actually thought of maybe fleeing the country to go to school, just for something exciting and different. A co-worker of mine just started at University of Westminster in the UK. Why? Because he wanted to go to school internationally. lol. I hear that’s one their top universities. It’s like, equivalent to Princeton. :o

  4. I will be in debt after I’m done with college. And I’m planning to get a even greater debt by studying a year in Australia after my three years here is done. What I need money for though here in Sweden isn’t school, that’s free for me, but housing, food, books and other things you need to get by. I will have to pay for school in Australia though, plus insurance and planetickets, ticket that cost like $2600 one way.

  5. Yeah, i read that in the news. It’s horrible. People having to pay 1k-2k a month for student loans :| Fortunate enough I have a scholarship so I dont have to pay tuition. But I still have to take out loans to pay for my books and fees :(
