Moving In

This weekend was the big move.

Saturday I woke up bright and early, packed up a few things and headed over to the house to wait for the cable guy. The dude spent like 5 hours hooking up the cable. Can’t blame him though, these people had like a million wires going all over the place. It’s crazy. Plus, they never had cable in the house, only satellite. He couldn’t get the internet working with my laptop, so I had to do it for him. I don’t think they’ve seen a lot of Windows 7 yet, or even Vista for that matter.

After the guy left, we went to home depot and bought some stuff we needed, then went grocery shopping. Dude, the ShopRite is sooooo much better than the A&P by our apartment. They have organic generic frozen blueberries for almost the same price as the blueberries at A&P. I was so excited. They also had fresh whole wheat roles and Bryan’s cereal on sale. I wrote them a nice letter. We bought so much stuff and it was only $7 more than usual.

After shopping, we moved more stuff. By the time I go to the last dresser drawer, I was exhausted and hurt all over.

Sunday, I woke up, not quite as early, but still early, to pack up some more stuff. Bryan’s parents came with a big truck and his brother and my parents came to help too. Funny story about the box spring. We knew the delivery people got it into the bedroom, but we couldn’t figure out how the heck we got it out because it just wouldn’t fit around the corner. His mom suggested that they turn it long ways, but they’re were like, nah. it won’t fit. … Turns out it did fit long ways and they got it through just fine. We felt a little silly after that.

Everything went OK, except, of course, the elliptical. We got it out of the apartment and into the house alright, getting it in the basement was a challenge. Brian came and helped Bryan take it apart a little and after about an hour, they managed to get it downstairs. It needs to be put back together again, but at least that’s all over now. Of course we won’t be able to move it ever again, so if we ever leave the house, the elliptical is staying behind.

We spent most of the day putting stuff away, but it’s still a disaster there. Everything I do takes twice as long because I need to find my stuff first. Even the stuff I put away. Moving to a house is so much different from moving to a dorm or an apartment. You have ALL your stuff there, you have all these new places to put stuff, so you have to find a new place to put everything and then you can’t remember where you put anything. It’s not terrible, I just need to get used to it.

My commute this morning wasn’t too awful. I can’t imagine if we bought a house in the other development where we made our first two offers. You can not make a left hand turn on that street at that time of the morning. There is so much traffic. I don’t know how people live there. Lucky for me, I needed to make a right, which also took a couple of minutes, but it was completely possible. Then I sat in traffic until I got to the light you turn at to take the Parkway North. Once I got past there, there wasn’t any traffic. I avoided the Parkway South so I wouldn’t have to pay the $1 toll. Took me 30 minutes total to get to work, which isn’t awful, but more than the 15 minutes it took at the apartment :( I took the long way though to avoid traffic on the local streets. I need to play around with the time I leave and the route I take, but at most, I’m only chopping off 5 minutes. Whatever, I have a house and it’s awesome. :)
